When we damage our cars bumper the plastic will often bend and return to it’s original shape but the paintwork will be scuffed needing what is called a ‘bumper scuff repair‘. A bumper scuff repair is different to a plastic bumper repair as the later normally refers to a structural repair of the bumpers plastic skin or frame.

Sometimes the bumper scuff will just polish off if you are lucky, you can either have a go yourself with some polish for Halfords or we will be happy to have a go for you free of change. If the bumper scuff will not polish off then a bumper scuff repair is iminent and we can do that for you at a competitive price. Yes we know chipsaway will come out to your home or work place but do you really want your car repaired out on the street? The process of your bumper scuff repair.

The bumper scuff will be first sanded so we can remove all the scratches and apply a few coats of 2k primer. This primer will then will be sanded down also the panels of your car that need painting. Some bumper repairs require the adjacent panel to be blended while others can just be painted edge to edge.

This Nissan Micra bumper repair needed the wing blending as the colour was a pearl and not a fantastic match. It is up to you if you want your car blended or just a straight edge to edge colour match, we advise blending as it ensures a better end result.

With the bumper repair done and the base colour sprayed on and dried it is time to apply 2 coats of Max Meyer high build clear coat. This is where we think our work will be more protective than smart repairs as they often use a very thin coat of clear to allow them to get it dry on your driveway quickly. If they applied 2 nice coats of high build clear they would never dry it in the short time they are at your house, 2k paint requires 65 degrees of heat to make it set.

The last thing this car needed once it was painted and baked off was a clean and back it went to our customer. A basic cost for a plastic bumper repair or scuff repair is around £65 – £145 depending on the extent of the damage, the colour of your car and if the colour needs blending or not. It goes without saying two panels are more expensive to repair and spray than one.

Bmw cars are a beautiful design and shape so when one gets damaged and needs a respray its nice to know that it can be done to a high standard without using a BMW specialist. Using a BMW specialist repair centre can often give you a hefty bill without you seeing anything extra for your money.

This M3 BMW respray was taken on in our Birmingham workshop, it came from miles away as we were more competitive than the customers ‘local BMW specialist’. The car was a BMW Uk insurance total loss, it had taken a heavy o/s impact and was dented all round.

It needed 2 o/s doors, a front bumper, inner and outer ‘B’ post and sills with a pull and repair on the floor. The roof was dented in 4 places, the bonnet had dents and scratches, the rear bumper had scuffs and scratches, it had to have a total respray as the damage was all over and there was no point in just doing the seperate panels.

As you can see from the photos this BMW respray turned what was a battered and dented classic car back into a stunning icon again. The prepping of vehicles and the application of fresh paint is something we love doing and our commercial spray booth is the perfect place to create a beautiful respray.

Bring your bike back to life with a quality motorbike respray.

Over the years we have prepped and sprayed many things, cars, vans, campervans and motorhomes even airplane wheel covers but a motorbike respray is something we especially enjoy. Taking a used motorbike that has scratches and stone chips on it, maybe the graphics are pealing or it just looks out of date with faded colours, whatever the task is, making your motorbike paintwork look fresh and new again is something we do very well. An old BSA motorbike respray for a valued friend.

We did this set for a local builder friend of ours that had been looking for a motorbike resprayfor a while but never realised we did motorbikes as well as cars, vans, camper vans and motorhomes. Althought the tank had minimal paintwork on it the masking took quite a while to line up so it was correct from all angles, a lot of time and patience went into that job and it paid off because when the tins were back on the bike it looked stunning.

As John was still building his bike when we photographed these tins the motorcycle below is just and example of how it will all look when it is all in position. Our motorbike paint jobs are all taken on with great care and when customers do bring their bikes back to us fully built it is nice how our work played a large part in making the motorbike look fresh again.

We are well suited to motorbike paint jobs as Steve is quite a perfectionist, he is so fussy it is sometimes hard to produce what he demands but then again attention to detail is just what our customers want. The above motorbike respray was done a few years ago, we charged £350. There were plastic repairs done on the side panels and a lot of time was invested in the masking and pinstripe work on the tank. The side graphics were layed on and the whole job was double clear coated for maximum protection and polished to a deep shine.

If you change a car colour can you make money?

Thinking of buying a car at a great price but you just dont like the colour?

It is getting more and more common these days that car buyers are looking at car colours and resale values and seeing there is money to be saved or made.

We have had lots of emails asking the cost of changing a car colour and is it cost effective? Well all we can say is there is money to be saved or made when you know what you are looking for when it comes to car resale prices and popular trending colours.

A London car deal phoned us a few days ago(our car resprays are cheaper than London area), he told me that he had been to a local car auction looking to buy a top of the range Mercedes or Audi with the view of using it for a private hire taxi. He went on to say that a silver or brown metallic Audi went throught at £1000′s less than a white Audi with higher milage. He asked me how much it would cost to change a car colour with a full body respray and would it be cost effective to do it at our Birmingham bodyshop.

There seems to be a current trend that some people are either changing their car colour from obscure colours to more neutral colours or using a car wrapping service. It is getting more common for customers to buy a terrible colour car for less money and then get a full car respray done by us.

How much to change a car colour?

It will always vary a bit depending on the condition of the bodywork and if you want all the trims ect removed or everything left on. Some bodyshops will remove all the bolt on panels like the doors, bonnet and boot lid, while others will change a car colour with all the panels left on. It is down to personal choice and money which way you decide to go.

Always bear in mind that if you don’t intend to keep the car for long a quality respray will be worth more on the resale value than a shoddy quick blow over! At the end of the day nobody wants a car that has been poorly resprayed and will possibly have paint flaking off the edges in months to come. Also rectifying a bad respray is not a nice job to do and is always costly.

When vehicle scratch repairs are done wrong.

This car was brought to us after the owner had his bonnet scratch repairs done at a local body shop through a friend. The result is shocking but even worse is how it was repaired, the scratch had been filled with body filler instead of being sanded out and the whole bonnet had been left smooth instead of being sanded down, it had been painted this way.

Fixing car scratches is something we do a lot of, it’s a day to day process and although we don’t like taking on previously attempted vehicle scratch repairs this customer was desperate as the car was up for sale. It did provided us with an opportunity to show you what a bad scratched car paint repair looks like, it is not that often you will see work like this, we hope you never get a job done like this one. As you can see from the photos below the paintwork is really dull and the bad scratch repairs look like raised scars.

We started work on this Seat and soon realised that the paint on the bonnet was very soft, it had not been baked in a low bake oven so we decided to try and wash it all off with paint thinner. The paint thinner slowly softened the layers of paint and it eventually washed off. This is when we realised the bonnet had not been sanded down and the body filler they had used to fill the scratch in had not been primed at all.

Once all the soft paint had been washed off we sanded the body filler off and sanded the scratch out too. The best way of doing a scratched car paint repair is to sand it out fully, if that means back to be metal then so be it. Notice we removed the trim off the bonnet too, we don’t like overspray or masking up easy to remove trims.

Always two pack prime vehicle scratch repairs for lasting quality.

With the scratch sanded fully out we 2k primed the area and infra red dried it. We then sanded the primer and the rest of the bonnet and put it in our spray booth to mask up ready to paint. Repairing car scratches is a fairly straight forward job so we just don’t know how this car was originally repaired so badly.

That is one of the problems when looking for someone to repair your car, car body repairs are a professional process needing the correct equipment. Without a spray booth or also known as a low bake oven paintwork just does not come out the same quality or have the same tough protection. Two pack clear coats must be baked at 65c or it will never fully cure and always remain slightly soft.

With the Seat in our spray booth and masked ready to paint these vehicle scratch repairs are almost complete. We start applying the Max Meyer water based base colour, it will have two and a half coats of this paint before being finished off with two coats of our hi gloss clear coat. When all the paint is applied the car will be baked for 35 minutes at 65c, this will ensure it has its paint toughness reinstated and the bonnet will have it’s original finish.

As you can see from the photos below there is a huge difference when vehicle scratch repairs are done right. The colour matches, the gloss is just like when it left the factory, all in all it looks like the vehicle has not been repaired and that is how it should be.

A few final shots of the car outside, see the deep reflection of the clouds. All our paintwork (no matter how good it comes out of our oven) gets polished, that way it looks and feels like a factory showroom finish. Our aim is always to make the vehicle look like it has not been touched.
